On This Day - August 2nd (2025)

 First Light

One of the benefits of being on the Cape is the opportunity to see the first and last light of the day. Crowds form at First Encounter Beach and Rock Harbor to applaud the sun as it sinks into Cape Cod Bay. But for me the magic time is Sunrise on the ocean. Only a few folks venture out that early.

Meanwhile just across the road

It is such a quiet time on the bike trail bridge that leads to the beach. No hikers, no bikes and sadly no birds.

I spend a lot of time with photos. I have been cataloging the photos of the New Ipswich Historical Society. It is an immersive task which sometimes transports me back in time. This is a photo of River Road in New Ipswich which at the time was shaded by an arch of willow trees. The trees are gone but the road is still quite beautiful since it provides a view of the Souhegan River. The woman is Mrs, Myron Taylor and her son Philip.
