Spoon out of the blue

A while back I received a handmade "spoon out of the blue" that was crafted by our local nature photographer Paul Willis. Paul converts some of his nicer firewood into kitchen tools as a hobby. I love the spoon.

The Little Red School House located in New Canaan, CT was Connecticut's last operating one-room schoolhouse. My cousin's husband attended the school and took us for a tour in October of 2006. Opening its doors in 1868, this Carter Street treasure was Connecticut’s last operating one-room schoolhouse when it closed in 1957. Acquired by the Society in 2003, it was restored thanks to the generous support of Society members, nonprofit groups, former students and friends. Longtime Schoolmistress Mary J. Kelley, who studied there in the 1890s and went on to earn a teaching certificate, was a “loving but strict” presence there for 47 years. The Kelley family home is just a stone’s throw from her classroom. Daily Photo Theme - Floral Friday

I've decided to try something a little different for today's photo theme Floral Friday . I have so many flower photos that I've selected just ones of a single color. The choice today is purple which does have a dedicated theme page called the Purple Circle . A new addition to my garden. Clematis almost looks artificial doesn't it? I have so many photos of crocus and I understand why. After a New Hampshire winter, it's wonderful to see any signs of color. The first ones to emerge are some small orange ones followed by these reliables. At some point I need to plant some autumn crocus - Colchicum autumnale . A water hyacinth, Eichhornia   is an interesting aquatic plant with an extensive filtering root system. The roots have a distinct purplish hue which I have tried to no avail to photograph. It is an invasive species in the south but is sold here as an ornamental for ponds. I usually place one in a bird bath. Orchid at the Mason Hollow Nurser...
