Daily Photo Theme - #cemeterysaturday

A new photo theme has been added to Google+ named Cemetery Saturday. Seems appropriate as we approach All Hallow's Eve. I often visit the local graveyards to photograph the stones and reflect on my own mortality. Participating in this theme is going to be easy for me.

I have an Olympus  70-300mm telephoto lens which gets little use. It's heavy, has problems with focus and isn't fast enough for sporting events. It was designed for the E-series camera bodies, but as an experiment I tried it with a micro-4/3 E-PL5 mirrorless body using a 4/3 to u4/3 adapter.

The lens weighs in at over one pound and dwarfs the camera body. It looks ridiculous but it works. Paris was looking through a window when I snapped this shot. The muted colors are an artifact of the sun shining on the glass. This shot was taken a 1/800sec at f5.6 (ISO 320). The lens was fully extended to 300mm.

Daily Photo Theme - Speedy Saturday

One of my favorite fall rituals was watching the Yankee Siege Trebuchet hurl pumpkins at a castle constructed of welded oil tanks. It doesn't get much better than that.  I would suggest calling prior to visiting since the website states that there will be no pumpkin-chunkin' in 2013.

Blast from the Past - Memphis 1968

I was stationed at the Naval Air Technical Training Center located in Millington,Tennessee. None of us had transportation but the Navy provided bus rides into Memphis on the weekends. In the late 1960s there were a number of civil right marches throughout the south. These photos were taken near Beale Street in downtown Memphis. I'm guessing this march was part of  of Martin Luther King's Poor People Campaign.

I wished I had asked this guy what he thought of the March

Daily Photo Theme - Tuesday Decay

One of my favorite daily photo themes is #TuesdayDecay and this photo seemed to fit into both the theme and the time of year as we approach Halloween.

Tuesday's photo theme for abandoned architecture, infrastructure, & man-made things!
#TuesDecay is the weekly theme focused on abandoned or forgotten man-made things - architecture, engineering, infrastructure, and so on, curated by +Ian Ference.

Anything that fits into that broad category is fair game! So tag your decay photos, invite your friends to join, and on Tuesdays, share in the beauty of dereliction with the #TuesDecay crew!
