Last full day of summer 2013

A few photos from Washburn's Windy Hill Orchard in Mason, NH. They were taken on the last full day of summer. They were doing a brisk business giving hayrides and selling apple crisp and caramel apples.

Unbelievable crop this year, pick your own
Same for peaches earlier in late August

Daily Photo Theme - Food Friday (Guest Photographer)

When I created this blog, I did so as a vehicle to share my own photos. That seems a bit self serving especially when I have some really talented (photo composition) kids and family members.

I'm old school, carrying around a 3 pound digital SLR, however lately it has been a Mirrorless Olympus micro 4/3 camera with removable lens. My kids however have mobile phones always in their hands. I lament they don't post the photos on a site other than Facebook, but that is is the way it is.

I am amazed at the quality of the photos, and I've decided to feature some of them on this blog. I've made minimal edits to the shots, mostly adjusting exposure and some cropping to level horizons but mostly the photos are unaltered.

I decided to relate them to the daily photo themes when it matched. It's hard to judge dates and locations since Facebook strips that information off for their own nefarious reasons.

My daughter lives in Boston, which is treasure for photographers and we'll start with her photos taken with an iPhone4S

Daily Photo Theme - Floral Friday

Stonecrop is a staple fall flower with pink flowers. For fun I rendered it with saturated colors for #FloralFriday.

Daily Photo Theme - Stairs Thursday

The Dune loop trail at Parker National Wildlife Refuge provided plenty of opportunity to photograph some interesting stairs. One of the more elaborate boardwalks I have seen. My picks for Thursday's photo theme #StairsThursday.

Daily Photo Theme - Grass Tuesday

The marsh boardwalk trail at Parker National Wildlife Refuge, great location for the photo theme #GrassTuesday. What is missing is the sound of the wind blowing through the rushes. This is a great location. I chose this photo for my Facebook title page.

Daily Photo Theme - Stairs Thursday

Boardwalk along the Dune Loop at Parker River National Wildlife Refuge. Seems appropriate for the Thursday photo theme #StairsThursday.

Going Down

Seems like something out of Tokien

Highest point on the trail. A dune with a 360 degree view and a spotting scope. Didn't see any birds though.

Sunday's Daily Photo Theme - Street Food Sunday

Tying this into "street food" is a bit of a stretch, but when Peterborough had a Puppet Parade, I went for lunch and found something other than the usual fare of hot dogs, hamburgers and pizza. Something that is healthy and tasty. Paella!

I wish I had a photo of the vendors selling Monkey Meat on a stick in Olongapo City, PI. THAT is street food.

Daily Photo Theme - Door Sunday

I have no idea where I took this shot. Another plus for digital photography, with date stamping and GPS information. However it does fill the requirements for the daily photo theme #DoorSunday.

From a scanned slide, go figure:

Daily Photo Themes for Saturday

A collection of the themes for this Saturday

Bench Saturday, Caturday, Shroomshot Saturday, Social Saturday, Unsharp Saturday

One of the most popular themes on G+ is #Caturday.
Paris hanging out in my office. She disappeared completely yesterday in a successful attempt to avoid
going to the vet.

Rustic bench spotted at the Peterborough Farmer's Market. Not very comfortable!
Photo theme #BenchSaturday

Three toadstools for #ShroomshotSaturday. Just coming into our Fungus season.

One theme I have yet to explore is #SocialSaturday which is described on their G+ page.
Quoting it below for the non- G+ crowd.

The Philosophy
Social awareness is our ability to accurately pick up on emotions in other people and understand what is really going on. Empathy and understanding are most fundamental in it: thinking about the other persons' needs, feelings and perceptions before our own point of view. But researches tell us we're not very good at this any more. Furthermore, too many people want everyone else to conform to their particular ways without understanding others and without acknowledging others' concerns and issues. Social issues are issues which relate to people's personal lives and interactions. Being socially aware helps people take others' situation and needs into account as much as possible. It allows us to adopt some internal stuff to lead to stronger connections in our relations with others. As we improve social awareness we also improve our experience of life. Photography  as a phenomenal art form allowing us to share our experiences, thoughts and emotions with others can be used to help inspire for more social awareness as we can record moments and document scenes of social issues that helps us feel a connection with other human beings in meaningful ways which might not have been possible otherwise. By participating in +Social Saturday Photography Theme Page, you'll have the opportunity to explore socially impressive works of great photographers on your stream. It will make a difference and we will grow both as people as well as photographers.

Part of the antique technology that will be on display at the NEW Appleton Academy museum.
I chose this shot for #UnsharpSaturday .

Daily Photo Theme - Window Wednesday

Went on a tour of mansions in Memphis Tennessee. I was going for training in Avionics at the Naval Air Station located in the town of Millington. The Navy barracks were not quite as nice as this.
